Ridwan M. Rifai, M.Sc. memiliki latar belakang penelitian di bidang aplikasi bioteknologi dan mikrobiologi untuk diterapkan dalam pengelolaan pencemaran lingkungan e.g., pencemaran akibat tumpahan minyak bumi. Selain itu, didukung oleh latar belakang industri, ia juga memiliki fundamental yang kuat dalam sistem manajemen lingkungan ISO14001, Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja (K3), serta higiene industri. Kini ia memiliki fokus penelitian pada pemetaan risiko resistensi antibiotika di lingkungan perairan dan pengembangan teknologi pengolahan air limbah guna memitigasi risiko tersebut.
